Day Two:
After this introductory day we drove inland and upland several hours, to a large ranch where we would be based for our next ride. The ranch was a small cluster of buildings amidst vast hills; it had small but lovely hotel facilities and fantastic food.
We took a short "test ride" on the new horses that afternoon in preparation for our longer expedition the following day. We ran into some loose horses on the hill top - the pastures there are so vast you forget you are in one until, miles later, you eventually come to a distant fence. The horses in frequent use are kept in smaller pastures near the ranch. "Off duty" horses run out in these large pastures with cattle.
Stay tuned for Part 3!
