The Akhal Teke is a famous desert breed originating in Turkmenistan, although they are now commonly bred in Russia, Turkey, and other countries around the world. Like the Arabian they are well known for their speed and endurance. They are thought to have influenced the development of the Thoroughbred, perhaps via the Byerley Turk. Some Akhal Tekes have had success at dressage and other sports, although their strength is mainly in racing and endurance riding. Quite a few are a peculiar golden color, with a metallic gloss to the coat, a sheen not found in many other breeds (though I've seen it occasionally in Lusitanos).
This video has some fun footage of Akhal Tekes being exercised in the arid countryside of Turkmenistan by riders in traditional attire.
The beginning has some romantic foal footage, but it's fairly brief.
